Astaroth (also Ashtaroth, Astarot, and Asteroth), in demonology, is a Crowned Prince of Hell. He is a male figure named after the Canaanite goddess Ashtoreth.  The name Astaroth was ultimately derived from that of 2nd millennium BC Phoenician goddess Astarte,[1] an equivalent of the Babylonian Ishtar, and the earlier Sumerian Inanna. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astaroth

Hislop explains that “the ‘round’ wafer, whose ‘roundness’ is so important an element in the Romish Mystery, what can be the meaning of it, but just to show to those who have eyes to see, that the ‘Wafer’ itself is only another symbol of Baal, or the Sun.”698 The Eucharist represents the heathen sun god. Further proof of this is the fact that the monstrance (see illustration699) used to contain the Eucharistic host always forms rays of the sun emanating from the Eucharist. All one need do is read the history of the Jews in the bible to find the source for this sun god worship. “And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.” (Judges 2:13 AV) The Catholic Mass is a continuation of the apostasy of the Jews in their worship of the sun god, Baal, in the form of the Eucharist. Tif’eret is the sefirot god that was also known as the sun in the Jewish Kabbalah.700 Tif’eret would seem to be the very same heathen sun god, Baal, who was worshiped by the ancient Jews. Astaroth is the Twenty-ninth Spirit, a Mighty, Strong Duke. He appears in the form of a hurtful, or as some texts read, unhurtful, angel riding an Inferno beast like a dragon and carrying a viper in his right hand. One must in no way let him come too near or he will damage you with his noisome breath. Therefore the Magician must hold the Magical Ring before his face which will defend him. He give answers to all things past, present, and to come, and can discover all secrets. He will declare willingly how the Spirits fell, if desired, and the reason for his own fall. He can make men wonderfully knowing in all liberal sciences. He governs 40 Legions of Spirits. ---Crowley, Aleister, Illustrated Goetia, DuQuette, Hyatt, Wilson, Temple, Arizona, New Falcon Publications 2000
