The divine ram god of the ancient Egyptian city of Mendes. Note the two pairs of
horns (ram's and goat's), the the solar disk, and protecting serpent. In
Sumerian mythology, the god Enki was symbolized by a horned goat. Enki was known
as Ea in the Babylonian tradition. The word Enki is believed to mean "Lord of
the Earth." In this instance Enki is akin to the Irish forest god Herne. (Click

Tax records can tell us a great deal about life in the Middle Ages. They don't
usually come with pictures, but this one does. It
is a cartoon from 1233 during the reign of King Henry III. It's a detailed,
complex cartoon and it is a bit of a mystery. It was
found on an Exchequer Roll, a kind of government document recording various
payments that is stored rolled up. This roll listed tax payments made by Jewish
people in the city of Norwich in Norfolk.

The god Pan with the hooves and horns of the goat. Pan is yet another variation
of the original forest god. Michelangelo depicted his Moses with goat horns. Did
the great sculptor know that the horns symbolized godliness and wisdom? Was he
letting us know that Moses, the great leader of the "Israelites" was, like his
people, from the West?

“Pan was a composite creature, the upper part–with the exception of his horns–being human, and the lower part in the form of a goat. (…)The pipes of Pan signify the natural harmony of the spheres, and the god himself is a symbol of Saturn because this planet is enthroned in Capricorn, whose emblem is a goat” -Manly P. Hall, Secret Teachings of All Ages

Death's Head (Skull &
Bones) During the 1880s a large burial mound was discovered in Sayre, a borough in
Bradford County, Pennsylvania. It was reported that a group of people uncovered
several strange human skulls and bones. The skeletons suggested anatomically,
normal men with the exception of their long, thin horns (featured to the left.)
The bones were characterized as giant because the skeletons ranged
over seven feet tall. Scientists estimated that the bodies had been buried
around A.D. 1200. The archeological discovery was made by a reputable group of
antiquarians (Dr. G.P. Donehoo, the Pennsylvania state dignitary of the
Presbyterian Church; A.B. Skinner, of the American Investigating Museum; and
W.K.Morehead, of Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts.)
Though, it’s not the first time we’ve discovered horned skulls.
Actually, in the 19th century, similar skulls were found near Wellsville, New
York and in a mining village close to El Paso, Texas. “At one time in history,
human horns were used as signs of kingship. Alexander the Great was depicted
with horns on some of his coins.” According to historical reports, the Sayre
bones were supposedly sent to the American Investigating Museum in Philadelphia.
Apparently, the artifacts were stolen and never seen again.
