Ben Goldacre
[back] Experts
[A Matrix journo. His media column (Guardian)
is called Bad Science which is a bit of a laugh considering he is defending
Allopathy
which is a testimony to bad science; but that is the best
form of defence, as they well know.
For example
Allopathy
is responsible for 780,000 deaths
every year in the USA where you would be lucky to find one from Homeopathy,
Naturopathy and Herbalism combined, and has only cured bacterial infections for
Allopathy isn't science-based medicine it is money-based medicine. The only people who care about and hate
anti-vaccinists and alternative medicine are pharma boys.
He recently attacked Homeopathy (see)
with the tagline Ben Goldacre is a doctor.
If that was changed to Ben Goldacre is an
Allopath his propaganda would be
shown for what it is--just medical politics courtesy of the Allopathy Inc owned
media, with no right of reply by Homeopathy, or any chance of a Homeopathic
article. That article was also in
Daily Mail (Nov 27, 2007),
and the opposing view was put by a, get this, a novelist,
Jeanette Winterson, who then went on to praise HIV drugs (see:
ARV genocide
HIV) and say--"good homeopaths know the
value of conventional (Allopathic) medicine and do not seek to undermine that
value." Classic! How's that for a right of reply? Another one for the
you-couldn't-make-it-up list, straight from Pharma Central.
The absurdity and nasty deception of his drivel can be exposed
easily in an Indian Government article on homeopathy (see). The Guardian is currently the worst paper for Pharma
propaganda, the only thing worth reading is the Sports Monthly. Has a fan
in another Matrix journo, David Aaronovitch:
'That's why I'm passionately for Goldacre'.
Just so you know who is head of his fan club.
He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists,
and is a research fellow at the
The Institute of Psychiatry,
(see psychiatry) how is this for Bad
Science: “The time when psychiatrists considered that they could cure the mentally
ill is gone. In the future the mentally ill have to
learn to live with their illness.”----Norman
Sartorius, president of the World Psychiatric
Association (1996-1999), addressing the Association of
European Psychiatrists Congress, 1994.]

Guardian of What? The Guardian, the Science Lobby, and
the Rise of Scientific Corporatism
by Martin J Walker
The essay is further addition to Walker's recent free book, Cultural
Dwarfs and Junk Journalism Ben Goldacre, Quackbusting
and Corporate Science by Martin J Walker
The essay is a continuation of Walker's analysis of the links between the
New Labour government some Liberal 'Democrat' peers and the lobby that
represents corporate science. This lobby recently began a full scale assault on
CAM or alternative medicine, with particular emphasis on homoeopathy and those
who claim to have been adversely affected by pharmaceuticals, particularly the
MMR vaccine.
[John Stone letter BMJ] Re: Restrictions on hospitality apply to journalists and doctors In the name of transparency BMJ readers may like to know that Ben Goldacre is a research fellow at the Maudsley Hospital [1]. In this regard his prominent intervention in the WiFi dispute with the BBC Panorama programme earlier this year may be relevant [2], noting that the Mobile Phones Research Unit which researches this issue [3] is for some reason part of the Institute of Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital ..........a senior luminary of the Institute of Psychiatry is Sir Michael Rutter who has taken a strong line on the issue of MMR . Simon Baron- Cohen, who was quoted in the article, formerly held a senior position at the Institute
Goldacre quotes
[You couldn't make this up! ] Time after time,
properly conducted scientific studies have proved that homeopathic remedies work
no better than simple placebos. So why do so many
sensible people swear by them? And why do homeopaths
believe they are victims of a smear campaign? (see)

[Many a true word] "The reason that I am so fabulously wealthy (girls) is, of course, that I am paid by the government and the pharmaceutical industry to rubbish alternative therapies and MMR conspiracy theorists, and so maintain what you humanities graduates like to call "the hegemony"."

Quotes re Goldacre
We can all benefit from Ben Goldacre's wisdom. For instance,
in 2004 Goldacre received the Association of British Science Writer's (ABSW)
award for "the best feature on a science subject in a national or regional
newspaper (2003) for an article on MMR: 'Never mind the facts' . The major
sponsor of the award of £2000 was MMR manufacturer and defendant Glaxo
SmithKline . This has not been disclosed in many Guardian articles mentioning
MMR, nor was it recently Goldacre's BMJ piece 'MMR, the scare stories are back'
